Weekend workshops for stilt walkers

June 10 and 11th 

9am-5pm each day 


this weekend is intended for anyone who already knows how to walk on stilts. Extensive experience is NOT required.
If you do not have your own stilts please contact us ahead of time.

Take your stilt skills to the next level, in this intensive weekend .

Explore movement possibilities on stilts in the air and on the ground. We will work on basic floor acrobatics and choreography. Saturday, Nico from Nemcatacoa will lead the afternoon workshop. Sunday we will focus on incorporating story, themes, props and aerial work into stilt choreography. Alessandra and Freyr will facilitate the workshop Sunday.

$160 a person for the weekend
and $80 for one day.

Bios of instructors

  • Nicolas Cifuentes:Founder and director of Nemcatacoa Teatro from Bogota-Colombia.Focus on physical theater on stilts. Began his theater studies in 1998 at Teatro La Mama and after that in other schools and workshops that take him close to his interest for street theater. His experimentation on stilts began 20 years ago, time in which he had direct 18 theatrical performances, 15 of them with NemcatacoaTeatro, and abroad with others like Sticks & Bones NY and Carpetbag Brigade CA. Some experiences to mark: Master class with Stalker Theater and David Clarkson (Australia), internships and seasons with Bread & Puppet Theater (US), Stiltasana Seminar with Carpetbag Brigade (US), International Stilt Council (Denmark). He also had been teaching at the Global Stilt Congress in San Francisco CA 2013.
  • Gina Shorten: has been studying movement for over 20 years, from competitive gymnastics to classical and traditional forms of dance (Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, African, Hip Hop, Contact Improvisation, Tap), theatre, martial arts(Tai Chi and Capoeira) and other somatic forms (Yoga, Pilates, Feldenkrais). She performed professionally with Human Nature Dance Theatre, Canyon Movement Company and Isolated Incident Performance Group while completing her Bachelors and Associates from Northern Arizona University and Coconino Community College. Since then she has trained with Alvin American Dance Theater, Holly Johnston, Augusta Moore, Lizz Roman, Kelly Kemp, Scott Wells, Sara Shelton Mann, Mestre Accordeon and Mestra Suelly, as well as diving deeper into Release technique, vertical dance, and acro stilits, performing professionally with Catch Me Bird, FloatingRib Dance Project, Bianca Cabrera, Lizz Boubion, The Carpetbag Brigade Physical Theatre and Nemcatacoa Teatro Fisico from Bogotá. She currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she is teaching and performing.
  • Alessandra Ogren has been working with stilts as a means of creative expression for more than 25 years. As an aerialist she has pushed the boundaries of stilt aerial work, and is always seeking new and innovative ways to take stilts even higher!
    She has been on the faculty of the Global Stilt Congress for the past 3 years, taught stilts at the Aerial Dace Festival, is a founder of Wise Fool New Mexico and part of the Peñasco Theatre Collective.
