The Peñasco Theater Collective
The PTC operates out of the 75 year-old Peñasco Theatre and coordinates year round, high quality arts programs rooted in mutual respect, self determination, and community building.
Our work focuses primarily on inter-disciplinary arts and political education that uses visual arts, devised theatre, dance, circus arts, puppetry and more to raise awareness about local and global justice issues and the ways in which art can transform individuals and communities. Our programs create collaborative, empowering, equalized intergenerational relationships between participating youth and artist/educators. We are committed to cultivating and supporting the leadership of young people, Queer and Trans, Indigenous, Chicana, and POC artists. Our high-quality, non-traditional programs impart the important life skills necessary to navigate and problem solve in a complex world.
Artistic mediums taught and performed include aerial (trapeze, rope, hoop, fabric), physical theatre (stilt-walking, clowning, juggling, acro-balance), poetry, visual art (painting, puppet making, fabric arts), and dance. PTC artist/educators work in area schools bringing the various artistic disciplines we teach to hundreds of school children annually.
